Yeast Infection is a type of fungal infection caused by the fungus named Candida Albicans. Some technical terms for this ailment are Candidiasis, Candidosis, Moniliasis and Oidiomycosis.
Yeast is found on pretty much every part of our skin. YES, even this moment there is some parts of our body that might be carrying some yeast, but it doesn’t mean we will get infection from it. We don’t normally get infection because our body’s immune system resists the growth of yeast thus keeping it under control so that it doesn’t cross the DANGER barrier. However the moist areas of our body, like Mouth, Vagina, Armpits, Skin Folds etc, can be primary birth places of this infection. The reason why yeast is found mostly in moist areas of our body is because these areas provide the appropriate environment for the growth of yeast and other types of fungus. The moisture in these areas and the heat of our body combine to make an optimum birth place for yeast. Also, these areas don’t get to see much of the sun which further increases the rapid growth of yeast.
Even healthy men and women are found suffering from this infection without knowledge. Medical studies revealed that estimated 30%-45% healthy women have yeast in their vaginal area and 20%-25% of healthy men have yeast in their penile area. Studies also reveal that at least 60% women suffer from at least one type of yeast related infection in their life and more than 40% women suffer from more than one type. Since we are pondering around the topic of types of this infection, let’s talk about most commonly observed types of the this infection
